Unauthorized BigFix relays

(imported topic written by anthonymap91)

We had someone install some unauthorized BigFix relays. I have to get approval to uninstall the relays from these servers. Three questions? I have approx 302 servers still reporting into a relay that ran out of space…

  1. Will stopping the relay services take the relay out of the automatic relay selection?

  2. Does uninstalling the bigfix relay require a reboot?

  3. Why did the clients not move over to another relay, when the relay ran out of space?

Thanks

Anthony

from my experience

  1. the clients on the relay will have to wait until they select new relays. new clients will not select them.

  2. not in my experience on xp,2k3 and 2k8 but YMMV

  3. relay was still up and responding so the clients did not know it was a bad relay. this is more of a BF question though.

mcalvi is correct.

  1. You will need to uninstall the relay to fully remove it from the relay autoselection list… However, if the relay is off, the agents won’t be able to select it.

  2. No.

  3. The clients “register” with the relay and check to make sure it is responding properly. They don’t check the disk space.
