Terminal Server hosting the Console but it won't run Flash

Hey,

I’ve got a pair of 64-bit Windows 2008 Terminal Servers in a farm that host our BigFix Console for all the admins in our enterprise (10-20 usually simultaneously). The hosting is accomplished by using the 2008 feature called RemoteApp, where the client only gets the windows for the tool, not the entire desktop.

We recently setup DSS-SAM, which relies on Adobe Flash. Unfortunately when we created a RemoteApp for iexplore and open the DSS-SAM site, we just get a message that says you need Adobe Flash installed to run the tool. Directly on the Terminal Server Flash runs great, and you can access the DSS-SAM website, no problems.

Furthermore, I realized that when I launch web reports from the console using the Tool…Launch Web Reports menu option, the Flash on the overview page doesn’t work, but when I launch it using the left hand Navigation bar menu, it works. &^!@#$!! In addition, I can use the Navigation bar-launched IE, and change the address bar to my DSS-SAM site, and it also works! But no luck with a remote app directly to the dss-sam site.

I checked that the sites in question are part of the trusted site list in IE. I granted users rights to some regkeys having to do with the Flash plugin (both 32 and 64 bit keys). I looked through logs, but I’m really scratching my head here, since it works with some methods, but not with the method I want.

Does anyone have any experience getting Flash to work in a similar environment, or anyone have any ideas?

Aha!

When I created the Remote App, I used the 64-bit version of IE. Apparently there are some issues with Flash and that version, so I recreated the App using the 32 bit one, and everything is A-OK.

Yay,
