TEM fixlet application on multiple clients behavior/policy

(imported topic written by LeoCiociano)

Hi everyone,

I need to know how TEM manage the application of a fixlet in multiple clients. For example, I need to run a fixlet with a file download of 800MB on 200 clients. I know all clients are powered on at the time of the action and all clients are on the same LAN. I’m using 4 relays with affiliation lists. My server and my relays fullfill the hardware requirements.

I schedule the action for 22:00, some clients start on time, but it happens that lots of clients starts the downloads like 3 or 4 hours later, and I don´t know why. I searched for documentation about it but i didn’t find anything usefull.

So, these are my concerns:

  • Which is the TEM policy to manage an action for lots of clients?
  • Does it apply to a number of clients at the same time?.. does it apply to all clients at the same time?.. (I believe not)
  • Is it possible to modify this behavior?.
  • How?

Again, I couldn’t find any usefull information.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Leo

so a couple of other questions come up in relation to this.

  1. are you precaching the file?

  2. do all the relays have the file or do they have to download it?

  3. are you chaining relays?

  4. Are you staggering client start times?

to answer your questions…

  • the execution tab of the action will dictate the ‘policy’ being used for that specific action.
  • if you pre-staged the file, allowed downloads before time constraints, etc, you can get the clients to kick off the task at the same time (or near).
  • yes
  • see the execution tab.
