Hi, question, we are deploying TEM and are estimating between 40,000-50,000 enpdoints on a BES server. We are also implementing a terminal server farm with hardware configurations capable of supporting from 20-30 users simultaneously using the sizing info here: http://support.bigfix.com/bes/install/consolereq.html. Does the number of console users logged into the TEM server affect performance? Or is the performance bottleneck at the terminal server layer? For example, if I have 3 beefy terminal servers, each with 25 sessions in use (75 sessions total), all logged into a single TEM server, does this adversely affect performance for all console users than if, say, only 25 sessions were in use total?
There are a few concerns when you have a big deployment with lots of console operators… I don’t have load testing data in front of me, but I would say the concerns (in order of importance – first is the most concerning) are:
Enough memory in the terminal servers so the consoles don’t run out (and get super slow)
Enough CPU power in the terminal servers so the users can navigate the console without delays
Database performance of BigFix Server (CPU/memory/disk speeds) to power the queries that all the consoles are doing.
#3 is the most configurable of these with the console refresh rate setting, which is partially why it is less of a concern.
