SW Deployment with mixed results

Attempted to apply VMware Tools Upgrade and received the following messages
ActionLogMessage: (action:222684) Action signature verified for Execution
ActionLogMessage: (action:222684) Cannot empty _Download directory
The fixlet was stuck in a pending download status and unable to complete the installation. The software distribution fixlet was successful with other installs. What can I review in the logs to determine what happened. This occurred on Windows 2012 and 2016 servers. Is there a similar log on windows servers like the EDR_DeploymentResults.txt file which highlights the progress of all deployments.

That implies an program from an earlier action is still running and has the download folder locked. Check to see what is still in the folder, or the action history, and troubleshoot the earlier action.

Should there be any files in the __Global/_Download/actionsite folder prior to assigning a fixlet to a server. Currently I have a fixlet in the waiting status that has assigned a 0 and pending file to the this folder. The unsuccessful servers that received the patch had 3 files and the names folder remaining. The successful servers did not have the 0 and pending file.

That’s a precache area. The successful server’s may have deleted their precached files after the fixlet was corrected. That’s not the download folder that’s stuck.

In any case, your error message was a pretty common one, and there’s probably no mystery. See what files are still in __BESData\some site name\__Download , and see if you can match those files against a running process in Task Manager.
