Strange software installation behavior in Vista

(imported topic written by mynameisbear91)

Perhaps this has been covered already, but…

I’ve been using BigFix to do software installations, and I’ve been using the “wait” keyword in the ActionScript to make sure that the end-user actually sees the software installation progress.

Here’s the rub:

In Vista, I’m not really sure what is actually going on, but the software installs without a UI. It is basically behaving as if I ran it with waithidden instead. Any ideas? :frowning:

Hi cgolightly,

I believe Vista doesn’t allow interface from the “0 session” to be shown to a user by design… I believe the reason for this change is that it prevents security exploits like the “shatter attack”.

I am not sure if there is a way to prevent this from happening…

Argh.

I guess my users that insist on running Vista (executive types that get uppity) are going to have to get used to stealth software installs.
