Standalone Web Reports server

Hi All,

I was going to bring up a standalone web reports server and I found the doc http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21505722, but it appears to be a bit outdated and not clear why to pick one option over another.

The 2 dialogs that I am concerned with are “Select Database Replication” and “Select Database”.

For the “Select Database Replication” dialog, I have the option for “Single or Master Database” and “Replicated database”. Since this is in an existing environment, the “Replicated database” looks like the right option.

For the “Select Database” dialog, I have the options for “Use Local Database” and “Use Remote Database”. This is the one I am not 100% sure on. My assumption is that I would want the “Use Remote Database”.

Any recommendations on which to use? Is there a guide that covers this more? The Web Reports Guide does not seem to cover these options or even standalone installs.

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin,

For the ‘Select Database Replication’ dialog, you’d want to pick ‘Single or Master Database’ (Replicated Database only applies in cases where you’re leveraging DSA, and applies more to the Root Server component).

For the ‘Select Database’ dialog, the choice of Local vs Remote database depends on where you want to host the BESReporting database for this standalone Web Reports instance. Part of the consideration here is also whether or not you want to leverage any existing BESReporting database (to allow sharing of users/preferences/reports across the Web Reports instances), or if you want to have a completely separate Web Reports instance (different set of users/reports).

In either case, do note that this WR instance should have high bandwidth (and low latency) to both the Root Server and the BESReporting database that it will be leveraging.

Hi Aram,

That clears it up, thanks

I am trying to pick the best option to avoid performance hits to the BES, which to me sounds like I want to set the “Select Database” to local. But I can see that managing the users/reports/etc would be a pain. I guess I will take a look at the options in my test lab and see which I like.
