I have a large package to push and I have released it with a Staggered offer. Unfortunately, it becomes immediately available to everyone and goes into a ‘Waiting’ status to satisfy temporal distribution requirement. It is not the behavior I expect. Can anyone clarigy how Staggering start time works with offers?
Staggering the start I believe is only related to downloading files prescribed in the fixlet. As far as what clients do when they get their marching orders, that shouldn’t have a lasting network effect. Are the files being pre-cached before the user accepts the offer?
If your root server and relay’s caches are large enough, then staggering shouldn’t be required since the file will only be downloaded once per relay until it gets to the client side of things, then every client will download it once from it’s parent relay.
If you have a relay behind each WAN link, then even without staggering, it should only download once across that WAN link.
Offers are in a sense always staggered by default since not every user will click on them simultaneously.
