SQL Server and Client Tools Version Detection - Problems

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

The report seems great at first glance, but when I try to reconcile what I see, I can’t.

For instance, I see a bunch of servers coming back with 10.0.5500.0 | Service Pack 1.

This version, 10.0.5500.0, is SP3, not SP1

There are a ton of “N/A” and no way of telling if those are express or what.

Anyone have any luck with these reports? It seems to take a LOT of time to try to sort through the data and there isn’t a good way to export the data cleanly so that is is workable (unless the Excel add-in can help?)

Any suggestions would be great!

Do you have the Software Usage Analyzer (TEMA SUA… formerly known as DSS SAM)?

It does a lot of work for you to disambiguate versions of software and look at data from multiple places to determine what software is installed/used…

No, I don’t. Looks like I should check that out - probably a nice premium!

Also, some computers show listed under SQL Server 2008 version x, but is also listed under “N/A” and I can’t figure out why. I look at add remove programs and I only see one version installed.

Very confusing :frowning:
