RSS feeds for topics and replies

I know this question marks me as a dinosaur, but does this new forum support RSS feeds for topics and replies or even NNTP?

Absolutely! Simply append .rss to the url of any topic or category. For example, the rss feed for this topic is https://forum.bigfix.com/t/rss-feeds-for-topics-and-replies/11562.rss

Here’s the topic on Discourse Meta that contains the long, winding discussion of whether to support RSS or not, with Jeff Atwood originally declaring RSS dead and then having someone point out that they found out about Discourse via RSS.

Here’s the Discourse Meta topic on NNTP if you want to check that out.

It works. I can subscribe to a category and see all the topics in there, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to get a single RSS feed for topics AND replies. That’s actually very disappointing. I would have to add subscription in Thunderbird for every topic that I’d like to follow? That’s simply not going to happen!

Yeah, I see how that could be a pain. I would suggest posting on https://meta.discourse.org with feature requests/suggestions. The Discourse developers are very active on there.

I will say that the email notification system as well as the webui notification system for Discourse is very very good. I like RSS, too, but I think that, other than that, Discourse does notifications very well. Have you tried customizing the email notification settings in your account preferences? You can also subscribe to topics via email and get a daily or weekly digest.
