RHEL download patch having issue

Hi,

I am trying to install RHBA-2016:2330 - Hyperv-Daemons Bug Fix Update - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 from Patches for RHEL 7 site. I am getting a download error. Below is the RHEL download plug in log. I have updated the RHEL plug in to the latest version and still I have the same issue

I too am having trouble downloading ANY patches for RHEL 7. I didn’t have any issues last month when RHEL updated the 250~ patches for 7.3 but none of the latest batch are working.

My Red Hat Download cacher is at the latest version - 2.8.11.0

We too are experiencing this issue, and while we thought it was simply the case of something having gone awry with our Big Fix instance, this thread is seemingly implying that the scope of the issue is much bigger. We confirmed that our Red Hat Download Cacher is also at the latest version (2.8.11.0), and we went through the troubleshooting steps of manually navigating to the URL’s referenced in the various RedHatProtocol logs on the Big Fix server, using the same RHN user as what is configured in Big Fix, and we were able to download the RPM’s just fine. As we already have a process to sync Yum repo’s from Red Hat and make them available to our systems, we are considering going the Custom Repo route, which will ultimately resolve this for us, but it seems there’s a significant issue here that needs to be resolved, nonetheless.

We also have the same issue. I agree with bgestwicki that turning to yum is the best option for the moment. I expect we’ll see resolution on the issue soon. Support says multiple tickets have been opened against the problem. My guess is RedHat changed the download directory structure for RH7 patches.

A new RHSM Download Plugin and cacher has been released along with updated content in the Patches for RHEL 7 site (in fact, Patches for RHEL6 Native Tools has also been updated to use the new download plugin).

Perhaps try using the new plugin and see if it fixes the issue.

But after configuring RHSM also , the fixlets are still using RHEL plug in for “Patches for RHEL 6 - Native tools” site. My site version is 261. Sample fixlets - RHSA 2015-1482 and RHSA 2016-2972.

Are you by any chance using a Baseline or custom copy created before the v261 released? That could be the reason why its still using the older plugin.

No. I am directly applying the source fixlet from version 261 - “patches for RHEL 6 -Native tools” site.

You’re right. It seems some propagation issue caused the old site to be visible again. I’ve initiated a request to republish the site with the new content and we should be seeing that update soon in site v262.

I have configured RHSM plugin and its working fine. But I have a concern still. I can see a lot of download error in the download plugin log before it eventually downloads it from RHN. These errors will take few minutes before it actually download the required rpms. Any idea why is it so? This way we will be loosing many minutes before each patch download.

Its hard to say why that Download Failed. Maybe try turning the loglevel to DEBUG for more details. Open a PMR with IBM Support to troubleshoot further if the logs doesn’t provide enough information for you to resolve it yourself.

To change the loglevel to DEBUG, edit the plugin.ini file in the RHSMPlugin directory.

• On Linux systems, the file is in the root directory tree occupied by the download plug-in. For example, /var/opt/BESServer/DownloadPlugins/RHSMProtocol.

• On Windows systems, the file is in the BigFix server installation directory. For example, %PROGRAM FILES%\BigFix Enterprise\BES Server\DownloadPlugins\RHSMProtocol.

As to some of the Download failed with an exception for URL messages, it could be because the certs provided does not have entitlement to the repos.

I had the same issue with wasting many minutes and while log filled with errors. We edited the json file to remove all “client” and “workstation” entries, leaving only the “server” statements. This did help, but does not seem like the long term fix. This also causes the BF console to report file does not match expected checksum.

I have some additional issue now. Even through the certificate is entitled to access some repo, still it is not able to download the repo.xml file. I have raised a PMR and IBm support is looking into it.
