Restriction of wireless network selection

(imported topic written by QSG6_THOMAS_WATSON)

Hi All, first post and very new to TEM so apologies if I have put this in the wrong section or not provided enough information.

I am wondering if it is possible to use TEM to restrict what wireless networks a computer can connect to? The use case is for training PC’s that the client wants to lock down, such as only allowing connection to a certain SSID, limiting the transmit power, preventing any edits to the wireless configs etc.

Is this something that can be done out of the box or would need some customization? We want to do both W7 and XP endpoints, so if the solution is customized there might be additional development involved as I understand W7 and XP have different methods to control the wireless adapter.

Thanks, Tom.

Hi, Tom.

To my knowledge, TEM does not have any canned Fixlets (i.e., nothing out of the box) that would allow one to restrict/constrain Wi-Fi connections on Windows XP/7 endpoints.

However, if one can figure out where in the registry such information is stored, then one could create a Fixlet to tweak the Windows registry as appropriate. As for preventing edits to the Wi-Fi configuration, I would look into local or group policy settings to accomplish this.
