Relay communication?

(imported topic written by louspag91)

Hello,

I am preparing for a DR test and will be taking down the primary BES Server. In doing so I would like to confirm that the communication for the top level relays switch from the primary BES Server to our backup BES server.

I’m not sure whether I will just stop all services or just the SQL and see how the BES server does.

My question is how can I confirm to whom a relay is communicating to? I’m thinking the relay logs and would like to confirm their location. If there is a better way please let me know.

On the BES Server is it located here

\Program Files (x86)\BigFix Enterprise\BES Server\BESRelay.log

On a relay Server is it located here

\Program Files\BigFix Enterprise\BES Client__BESData__Global\Logs\currentdate.log

Thanks

Hi louspag,

One way to tell would be if the agent data was making its way into the database at all… And you would be able to see in the console that the relay computer was reporting its parent relay as the secondary server.

You can also look at the client logs that you mention and it will tell you whether the agent is registering properly (the agent is in charge of picking the relay – even if the computer has a relay installed).
