Redundant Power Supply Property

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

Has anyone seen a WMI call or similiar that can report on the status of redundant power supplies on a server (2 bays - 1 supply, etc)? We have numerous servers that have redundant power supply ability - but they were purhased with only one power unit. There is a project to go back and locate all the servers that are in need of a secondary power supply. I’ve dug around through WMIExplorer and the web - but haven’t found anything substantial yet. It would be great if I could do it through BF, instead of people manually searching the backs of servers. Might even make me look like a hero

Thank you.

Mike, this is usually down to the manufacturer of the box. We use HP boxes that have their own set of tool for raising alerts on events such as power supplies coming on and off. You really want to speak to your server vendor.

We have HP servers as well and some are running the Insight agents - that provide some of the alerting details. In this case, we are looking for power supply alert status (up or down) - but whether both bays are in use. We don’t have an Insight server running - so I can’t really check to see if it watches that or not. From what I have seen, it will only alert if an existing supply is down or pulled out. Not sure if if it will report if a bay is empty after the fact though. So I wondered if there was some type of WMI call I could you use to see that - but it is probably very true that it will be properity to the hardware maker. But figured I would ask. Thanks for you help.
