Redhat 5 (RHEL5) 7.2.4.75 upgrade

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

Hi,

The relevance for the “Updated RHE4 x86_64 BES Client Now Available! (Version 7.2.4.75)” includes RHEL4 and RHEL5 server OS versions. However the Action script only downloads the rpm for RHEL4 regardless of the OS version? Is this the correct action or am I missing a something?

Brgds, Mark.

That is correct… The RHEL4 and RHEL5 agents are the same…

Hi Ben,

Thanks for getting back to me - although this has confused me even more???

The link you posted above certainly does have the same agent for both RHEL 4 and 5. However (and don’t ask me how I got to this page - something like 'click, click, click, click  ) I found this page -

http://support.bigfix.com/bes/install/besclients-nonwindows.html

and downloaed the agents for RHEL 4 and 5 which are definitely different.

Am I trying to use the wrong agents?

On that page, there are different links for RHEL4 and RHEL5 agents, but they point to the same file…

I’ve just re-downloaded the following four files and ran them through a ‘size of file’ and ‘sha1 of file’ QNA ----

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 BigFix Client RPM (x86) (7.2.4.75) -

3567747 - e061a6699e4c32e2e19d2e3e61d2840ff24f7bb7

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0 BigFix Client RPM (x86) (7.2.4.75) -

3670717 - 0d2aa525f9e296ec947219ba9497e24bfd893f32

Red Hat 64-bit Enterprise Linux 4.0 BigFix Client RPM (x86_64) (7.2.4.75) -

3683329 - 4fd809567e63b8727ef8ea4d04fde24a391c66c2

Red Hat 64-bit Enterprise Linux 5.0 BigFix Client RPM (x86_64) (7.2.4.75) -

3633641 - d0d492052c44467daf6461df9c27f8b3a79178e7

So the versions do appear to be different.

I’ve also just installed each of the four versions and compared the files that get installed. The only files that are the same are the init.d startup script and the besclient.config.default file - all the binary files are different.

Have I, somehow, picked up the wrong agents for RHEL?

Cheers,

Mark.

Hey Mark,

I am a little confused… Where did you get the files from?

If you look at the files here, they all go to the same url for rhe 4/5: http://support.bigfix.com/install/besclients-nonwindows.html#rh32

Hi Ben,

I’ve just checked the ‘route’ I originally took to download these files and the links do, now, point to the same RHEL4 rpm file!

BigFix home ( http://www.bigfix.com )

Support ( http://support.bigfix.com/ )

BigFix Download Center ( http://support.bigfix.com/bes/install/downloadbes.html )

Multi-Platform BigFix Clients ( http://support.bigfix.com/bes/install/besclients-nonwindows.html )

then the various ‘download’ links.

Maybe the RHEL 5 agents that I downloaded were some kind of Dev release that inadvertantly got link to?

I’ve tried to attach all four (ziiped up) original agents that I downloaded - but’s it’s not posting properly. I’ll try and attach them in seperate posts…

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Ben, that attachement didn’t seem to work either. Maybe the files are too big. Can I email them to you instead?

Hey Mark,

I am not sure what happened… but I expect that the files are OK as they stand right now… I will double-check and let you know if I see an issue…

Someone told me the links were updated a week or so ago and you should use the new links for best results…

You may want to start a new thread for this Raja.

I’m sure you’ve checked - but is your BESClient actually running? One of the problems I’ve hit before is forgetting to put a copy of the masthead.afxm into the /etc/opt/BESClient folder and renaming it to actionsite.afxm
