Red Hat Enterprise Linux client failing to report

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

I deployed 18 RHEL clients today and 16/18 reported as expected. I checked the log in /var/opt/BESClient/__BESData/__Global/Logs and have multiple entries like the ones below;

RegisterOnce: Attempting to register with ‘http://host.domain.name.com:52311/cgi-bin/bfenterprise/clientregister.exe?RequestType=RegisterMe&ClientVersion=8.0.584.0&Body=0&SequenceNumber=49&MinRelayVersion=6.0.0.0&CanHandleMVPings=1&Root=http://host.domain.name.com%3A52311&AdapterInfo=00-0f-4b-00-b2-0c_123.45.6.0%2F24_123.45.6.789_0&AdapterIpv6=00-0f-4b-00-b2-0c^fe80%3A%3A20f%3A4bff%3Afe00%3Ab20c%2F64_0

RegisterOnce: GetURL failed - General transport failure. - ‘http://host.domain.name.com:52311/cgi-bin/bfenterprise/clientregister.exe?RequestType=RegisterMe&ClientVersion=8.0.584.0&Body=0&SequenceNumber=49&MinRelayVersion=6.0.0.0&CanHandleMVPings=1&Root=http://host.domain.name.com%3A52311&AdapterInfo=00-0f-4b-00-b2-0c_123.45.6.0%2F24_123.45.6.789_0&AdapterIpv6=00-0f-4b-00-b2-0c^fe80%3A%3A20f%3A4bff%3Afe00%3Ab20c%2F64_0’ http failure code 0

I have altered the IP’s and fqdn’s in the log entries above. I can say that IPv6 is NOT enabled on either of these two hosts.

Any ideas as to why these two clients are failing to report?

I think the agents can’t contact the server… you can try to paste that url in a browser on the computer and see what happens:

http://host.domain.name.com:52311/cgi-bin/bfenterprise/clientregister.exe?RequestType=RegisterMe

I am able to go to that executable file via a browser. It gives me the option to save it locally, which I have done, just to verify that I can.

You can use the old stand by and telnet to the relay to see if the server can access if sometimes NAT and firewall issues can interfere with contacting the server.

telnet host.domain.name.com 52311
