Hi,

Just wondered if someone could clarify how the Policy option works when deploying actions. Does this mean if I set policy and leave the action open then any machine that gets added to that group will automatically pickup this action??

The scenario is:

A new computer is added to the domain and picks up my BigFix agent GPO and installs the agent. As the computer is in a certain OU it will then be added to an Automatic Group.

How do I setup the policy so that when it first reports it picks up the latest updates and patches automatically, i.e. BigFix agent update, stay awake, bigfix service etc?

For automatic groups, yes. This is how we deploy software to new machines. Be sure to select

All computers with the property values selected in the tree below

on the target tab.

I think it’s the same for manual groups, but I’m not positive. At any rate, I’d recommend using automatic groups over manual groups, which it sounds like you’re planning to do.

AFAIK, yes. We’re targeting baselines at our automatic groups.
