Patching Issue

(imported topic written by jnichols91)

We have one computer showing 66 fixlets (mostly patches) as “needed”. When I go through and patch this workstation, I can see each patch go through the “evaluating”, “running” and “pending restart” steps. However, when the computer is rebooted, all of the patch statuses change to “Failed” and it still shows 66 fixlets as needed (the restart fixlet is marked as “fixed”).

I had one of our field support technicians physically check the computer. He ran Windows Update, which showed no patches were needed. He also checked the “uninstall a program” control panel to verify he saw the patches listed (i.e., Windows says they’re installed). I also had him uninstall the Tivoli Endpoint agent, delete the TEM folder under “Program Files”, reboot, then reinstall the agent. No luck.

Any ideas?

I ran into a similar issue on one of my endpoints. The issue was due to the “Windows Update” service missing. This can also occur if the update service is disabled. If the service is not present in the list run the following command to re-register it.

REGSVR32 %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL
