Oracle Linux 6/7 - Patches fail

Dear all,

I have installed the besclient in several Oracle Linux (VM) machines. I am using the 9.5.2.56 BigFix console (on a Windows server). Even though I can see fixlets and patches relevant for my Oracle Linux VMs (Site mentioned: Patches for Oracle Linux 6 - URL mentioned: http://linux.oracle.com/errata/XXXXXXX), when I run the task, it fails. In my VM’s BigFix logs I can see a line saying: Not Relevant - ELSA-XXXX-XXXX - XXXXXXXXX. I’m I doing something wrong? Did I forget to configure something? I have configured the RHSM Plug-in, which works for my RHEL 6 VMs.

I cannot find a BigFix guide for Oracle Linux machines.

Thank you in advance,
Jen

Hi @jen
The Patches for Oracle site currently only works with Custom Repository method. In contrast, the Fixlets for your RHEL endpoints are using the Download Plugin method. (I inferred this from your statement: “I have configured the RHSM Plug-in”)

You can start here: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SS6MER_9.5.0/com.ibm.bigfix.patch.doc/Patch/Patch_Oracle_Linux/c_introduction.html

Dear @chowky,

Thank you for your reply. I am following the guide you mention and more specifically this guide: IBM Documentation
However, it is not working as I mentioned in my first post. Is there something else I should look into?

Thank you very much,
Jen

So, a couple things to check.

  1. Is the endpoint subscribed to the Patching Support site?
  2. Have you enabled the Analysis - Repository Configuration - Oracle Linux in the Patching Support site?
  3. When looking at the registered repositories for the endpoint in the OEL Custom Repository Management dashboard in Patching Support site, does the custom repo you created show up under the endpoint?

If they all match up and applying a Relevant Fixlet still fails, I’d suggest opening a PMR at this point and collecting logs.
