ON Security patch

(imported topic written by cye91)

Hi

I found that some security patchs on Microsoft update web site are different from fixlet made by BigFix.

And some patches showed on Microsoft web site don’t exist in the fixlets .

So I want to know that how do bigfix make out the fixlets by what conditions (such as size, date, version)

Hi cye,

All Microsoft security patches and major updates are covered in the “Patches for Windows” sites. Other patches from other vendors are covered in the other sites (Mac OSX, RHEL Patches, Updates for Windows Applications, and so on). It is not expected that BigFix will have every non-security MS patches.

Hi Ben,

I have similar question.

For example, “Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB969898) - English”

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=9892a387-890c-4195-8824-72428780e4c5

This is security patch(I think so), but there is no fixlet for apply this patch in “Patches for Windows”.

Microsoft Update detects this patch.

Why this happen?

Hi ebibibi,

We are planning to cover KB969898, and the content is currently in development. Please note that since this is not a high priority security bulletin (as opposed to security advisory), BigFix does not have a set release schedule for ActiveX Killbit and similar content. You can expect to see content for KB969898 within the next week.

Thanks,

Randy

Hi rwest,

Thank you for your message.

I’d like fixlet covers same contents as Windowsupdate…
