Non-MS fixlets

(imported topic written by paulc91)

Why does it take so long to produce AIX and I presume all non-MS fixlets?

IBM released a new service pack for AIX over a week ago and there is still no fixlet available (AIX 5300-06-02), in contrast the Windows patched released yesterday are today reporting in my BES.

This was also the same last month when TL 5300-06 and SP 5300-06-01 were released, it took a week to produce the fixlet, but the Windows patches had fixlets the next day.

My weekly reports are now not accurately reporting the status of the environment. Worse still, if I was to deply the new service pack today, the fact that it was required and correctly patched will never show up in my reports, so management can’t see that I have completed a task and Bigfix has alerted to the issue.

I know that Bigfix is MS-centric, but it is sold as a cross platform solution and I think we in the non-MS world are being short-changed.

PaulC,

We apologize for this delay and the update is now in place.

We have aggressive release targets for all our supported operating systems and we are always working on getting all the Fixlet updates out sooner (for all operating systems).

The following Fixlet content for AIX has been published:

ID 530603 “AIX 5.3: Recommended Service Pack 5300-06-02”

ID 531150 “AIX 5.3: PTF in Error: Tdbdump Core Dumps in __modinit.Find_rtinit in 5.3 Tl05”

as well as updates to the “AIX Fileset Deployment Wizard 6.0” and the “AIX Download Cacher Tool.”

Thanks,
