I just upgraded our lab environment to 7.2.1.357. I then tried to install BF on a Windows 2008 x64 machine using the MSI file but it never installed. It did the same thing it did when using the 7.1 client, in that it runs, but never installs. Am I doing something wrong or does the MSI client not install on x64 clients and you should push it thru the console or use the .EXE. We currently havve the BF install tied to a GPO and I was really hoping this got fixed in the new versionm so i could extend this to x64 clients finally.
I think I recall that the version of installshield we use to package the MSI has an issue on x64… see if the setup.exe installer works for these systems…
I will double-check, but I thought we had fixed this or had planned an upcoming fix…
Hmmm… The bug was #17655 and it was supposed to be fixed last September and I thought made its way into the 7.2 version… But it looks like the work and the tests were running against Win2003 and not Win2008… I will check in with the developers, but you might want to contact support…
Seems that this is fixed… but it required very extensive installer changes and didn’t make it into the patch release and so it won’t be released until the next major version (8.0 probably).
So it looks like for the moment, the exe is your best bet (you can do something like convert the exe package to msi with some tools if you have them available).
