Hi…
Though Office 2003 SP1 is past its support lifecycle, we still have Office SP1 in our environment.
Had a large number of failures for MS08-011 deployment and was wondering if you could help.
Have determined all failures are occurring on machines still at Office 2003 SP1.
KB943973 applies to Office 2003 at SP2 or SP3. Ran a nonsilent instllation on Office 2003 SP1 and confirmed SP2/SP3 requirement; update did not apply and message displayed indicating expected version was not found. Error in app event log showed error code 1642 which occurs when a Windows Installer patch upgrades a different version, not the version it finds on the machine.
All of these machines test TRUE for one or more .EXE version checks in MS08-011 relevance. Other updates installed on these machines have updated one of more .EXE versions with versions provided in what were then the latest service packs. Many of these machines, for example, were updated for MS06-059 KB923088, which installed post SP2 Excel version 11.0.8105.0
Checked out Office 2003 version at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821549. Checked the Office 2003 SP1 machines with update failures…confirmed value for “DisplayVersion” for Office 2003 uninstall key under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall is reliable indicator for service pack version.
Was wondering if relevance could be added to MS08-011 to align with prerequisites for the update, requiring “DisplayVersion” value greater than or equal “11.0.7969.0”?
