MDM Beta Update Released!

(imported topic written by BenKus)

Hi everybody,

We are happy to announce that we have released a new update to our MDM Beta!

The key purpose of this release is to try to add some more functionality and sync up the MDM Beta Fixlet site with the last pieces of functionality that we intend to release for our GA version in a few weeks.

Here are some of the key changes:

  • Added MDM Health Checks dashboard to look for common mistakes and assist support and troubleshooting.
  • Added ability to send message notifications to Android and iOS devices
  • Added support for , which allows you to prompt the user to install the app, better secure the app data, and selectively wipe the app data.
  • Introduced support for the Apple Volume Purchase Program with redemption codes functionality for iOS5 (which will allow organizations to pre-pay for apps for their users).
  • Added “corrective actions” to jailbreak and rooted detection Fixlets (including warning the user and deprovisioning or wiping the device).
  • Management rights and site subscriptions are now supported for devices managed through Management Extenders (previously only master operators could manage these devices).
  • Enhanced App Management dashboards for greater ease of use and more functionality.
  • Computer groups (both automatic and manual) are now supported for devices managed through Management Extenders.
  • Added ability to enable/disable data and voice for Apple iOS devices.
  • Significantly simplified the installation of the Management Extender for iOS (no more command-line openssl to generate the Apple certificate requests!).
  • Simplified all the Management Extender installations with the new “Configure Management Extender” dashboard.
  • Changed the Management Extender for iOS web server technology to a more stable, secure, and higher-scaling technology.
  • Added ability to import trusted HTTPS certificates for Management Extender for iOS to avoid untrusted certificate warnings.
  • Encrypted and secured the setup information for Management Extenders.
  • Performance improvements for devices managed by Management Extenders at scale.
  • Better support for non-English characters in all components.
  • Makeover for Android App (now called IBM Mobile Client) for polish and to be consistent with Apple iOS app.
  • Apple iOS App UI enhancements - categories, updates etc. (Apple app has been submitted to Apple and we hope to have it posted on the Apple App Store soon).
  • Standardized and polished many of the MDM Dashboards.
  • IBM Java is now included with the java-based Management Extenders (helping to avoid the previous installation complications of Oracle Java).
  • Changed proxy agent to only update last report time for devices that have reported recently.
  • Added Exchange 2007 support for Management Extender for Exchange.
  • Lots of small changes and bug fixes…

For current Beta customers:

  • The existing functionality should work, but we highly recommend updating to the latest Management Extenders, which involves removing the management extender, re-installing, and then re-enrolling devices.
  • Please restart your console if you have left it open for the last few days to help avoid a bug with an update of some of the console files.
  • You may need to re-make some of your older iOS profile configuration Fixlets.
  • You can upgrade to the latest Android Agent (IBM Mobile Client). Note that we synced the version with the other BigFix Agents so the latest Android Agents are 8.2.x (which are newer than the previous 8.3.x versions).

We will continue to make smaller changes and updates to the MDM Beta site as we approach our GA, but we don’t expect major changes.

Please send us questions, issues, bugs, comments…

Thanks!

BigFix MDM Team
