Masthead.afxm vs actionsite.afxm

We’ve been installing macOS and Windows agents by placing the installer in the same directory as the actionsite.afxm file on the client, retrieved from the root server, at C:\Program Files\BigFix Enterprise\BES Client\actionsite.afxm.

I also understand that the latest masthead can be obtained from https://my.root.server:52311/masthead/masthead.afxm, but this is named masthead.afxm

Looking at the macOS .pkg installer pre-install script, it looks only for actionsite.afxm.

On Windows, the guides say to use masthead.afxm, but I know that actionsite.afxm works as well.

Can I take the masthead.afxm file and simply rename it to actionsite.afxm? Is there any difference in how we should be using these files?

Yes, masthead.afxm and actionsite.afxm are the same file. The required name just depends on context which you already covered. Renaming between the two is fine for the installer/placement you’re using.

It is low-key infuriating that the file has a different name depending on client platform. I’ve lost count of how many times this has tripped me up.
