Make Adobe Reader default pdf viewer in Internet Explorer

(imported topic written by rdamours91)

I’ve got some pc’s that have Adobe Professional and Adobe Reader 8.1.6 on the same system. The problem is that after the upgrade to Reader 8.1.6 the default pdf viewer in IE is no longer Reader and some pdf’s will not open in IE.

Not sure if anyone else has run into this and created a job to fix it but I will have to tomorrow morning sometime. Let me know if anone else has run into this already as I’ll share what I find tomorrow am.

Here’s what I found that seems to fix it at installation but not after the fact

“It was a problem with the “Installation Options”, “Default viewer for PD files” if I change the value from the default “Installer will decide which product will be the default” to “Make Acrobat the default viewer…” the error occurs. If I leave the value at the default “Installer will decide…” everything works fine.”

It wasn’t a big deal… Only about a dozen or so users were inconvenienced. Let me know if this was an issue for you as I still may roll my own install for the next update.

Did you find a way to fix this via Bigfix?
