Linux: Am I missing something?

(imported topic written by rmnetops91)

So I see installers for Windows systems in my Installers folder, but none for Linux. I also couldn’t find reference to how I get the Linux BigFix Client installed. Is there a download somewhere and instructions for installing the client on Linux (Red Hat)?

You have to know that “multi-platform” is Support page speak for non-Windows. :slight_smile:

  1. Go here -> http://support.bigfix.com/bes/install/downloadbes.html

  2. On that page there is a “multi-platform” section which takes you here -> http://support.bigfix.com/bes/install/besclients-nonwindows.html

That download page says “All mastheads on this page are Evaluation mastheads and should only be used on Evaluation licenses of BES”.

Should I still use these downloads if we are licensed?

Well… it could use a bit of clean-up… check out the Red Hat instructions from that page (which describe copying your properly licensed masthead rather than downloading an evaluation masthead):

Red Hat Installation Instructions

  1. Download the corresponding BigFix Client RPM file to the Red Hat computer.

  2. Install the RPM by running the command rpm -ivh .

  3. Copy your actionsite masthead to the Linux BigFix Client computer (the masthead contains configuration, license, and security information). The action site masthead (actionsite.afxm) can be found in your BigFix Installation folders (by default they are placed under C:\BigFix Installers). If the masthead is not named “actionsite.afxm”, rename it to “actionsite.afxm” and place it on the computer at the following location: /etc/opt/BESClient/actionsite.afxm.

Note: In BigFix 4.0 and later, the masthead file for each BigFix Server is downloadable at http://servername:port/masthead/masthead.afxm (example: http://bes.bigfix.com:52311/masthead/masthead.afxm).

  1. Start the BigFix Client by running the command: /etc/init.d/BESClient-7.2.5.22 start.

Basically, if you see instructions elsewhere on that page that say to grab an “evaluation masthead” you should just read that as “use your properly licensed masthead” instead. :slight_smile:
