Limit number of "running" computers

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

I’m using TEM for patch mgmt on a number of virtual servers running as guest on VMware.

In general I have grouped my endpoint according to OS and deploy patches on a monthly basis using baselines.

To avoid overloading the VMware hosts, is there a way to limit the number of concurrent running endpoints (some groups have a large number of computers associated)?

Thanks in advance

Maybe use “temporal distribution” to randomize the start time of the actions?

Hi Ben

Thanks for your reply.

I believe what you call “Temporal Distribution” is what I know as “Stagger action start time” from the execution tab in the Action dialog.

However, I would like to control any delays from download, so I usually check “Start client downloads before contraints are satisfied” on the same tab. This makes the stagger option change into “Stagger action downloads…”.

So if the computers are locked due to a maintenance windows that are not yet active - this will cause the action to be downloaded in a staggered way and then all computers will start installing whenever the maintenance window gets active - right?

To make “Temporal Distribution” work in this way I will need to extend the maintenance window and then first start the action download whenever the contraint are satisfied.

I guess I can make it work this way, can you confirm that I got the right understanding about this?
