Issue with the Excel Connector

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with the BigFix Excel connector since I added multiple ODBC connections for the different Pruduction/DR BES servers in the environment. I redownloaded and reinstalled the tool but it still does not load up in excel. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi ageorgiev,

The BigFix Excel Connector does not use ODBC, rather it uses the SOAP to connect to BES Web Reports.

So your ODBC modifications might not be the source of the problems.

What is the symptom of the issue you are encountering?

Lee,

Well, keep in mind that we recently had the Production environment installed, prior to that we had the excel connector installed and working with the POC enviromnet. The symtom itself is that when you load up excel it just does not show the connector at all and this is observed on all servers that had connector working previously. As I mentioned reinstalling the connector did not seem fo fix it either.

Is there log file that I can check or a diagnostics that can point me in the direction of determining the problem? Thank you.

Ageorgiev,

Can you please try this:

  1. Uninstall the addin from Add/Remove program

  2. Remove the following registries from the login user:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\AddIns\BigFixExcelConnector.AddinModule\CommandBars

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\AddIns\BigFixExcelConnector.AddinModule\Controls

  1. Reinstall the addin again.

The log file for the installation can be found at:

C:\Documents and Settings<login user>\My Documents\Add-in Express

Lee,

Deleting those registry keys did the trick. Thank you very much.

Roy,

What is the symptom of the problem you are having?

Can you please take a look at the notes that I just posted -

Otherwise, can you please post the installation log found in the

user_home

\Add-in Express folder.
