Is the BESClientUI necessary?

(imported topic written by curth)

My company runs BigFix mainly for Windows Servers. As such, we typically do not have users logged into the servers (except for servers running Citrix/Terminal Services). When pushing patches, we certainly do not want to be prompting any users or asking them if they want to delay an action or reboot. We want the actions and reboots to take place regardless. So, if my case, can I set the BESClientUI Enable Mode to “Disable” on my servers?

Thanks,

Curt

Hey Curt,

The BESClientUI’s purpose in life is to live in the user space and interact with the user… The reason it is a separate process is to work better with OSes that don’t let services interact with the users (like Vista) and for security reasons.

You can use the Tasks in the Support Fixlet site to disable the clientui completely because it sounds like you don’t need it for your servers… Make sure you are using 7.2+ clients…
