Inventory contract usage numbers incorrect

Good Day

Hope someone can assist us here.

we have recently configured Inventory, to report on the number of installations of software compared to the number of licenses.

When pulling the Contract usage data report, the contract usage numbers are too low.

e.g the Bigfix Console reports that there are 3200 Bigfix Clients, but the contract usage report says there are only 2700 installations of the Bigfix Client.

Why would there be such a difference in numbers?

Thank you

There could be many reasons.
Are all computers in BigFix console subscribed to the BigFix Inventory Site?
Have the BFI scans completed on all computers?
How many computers do you see in different widgets in the main BFI dash board?
Did you check the Reports -> Software Installations or Reports -> Software classification to see how many BigFix agents are shown in the inventory?

Also there are predefined reports (All IBM Metrics, All Metrics) and others that give software counts. Contracts may not be needed for many products

Good Day SSAKUNALA

  1. All machines are subscribed to the BigFix Inventory Site.
  2. Not all scans are completed 641 has not uploaded
  3. In the BFI we see 3845 machines in Console we see 3809(COnsole has fairly aggressive cleanup)
    4.Report ==> software installations =3206 and software Classification ==>3206

Hope this helps

Thank you

Hello Pierre,
BFI is historical and stores current and deleted software inventory information. Also the information in BFI will be as of the last data import. So if BigFix console has changes after last daily BFI import, the numbers will not match.

In BFI -> Software Classification, check the # of BigFix agents with Present = Yes filter and compare the count with the Contract Report

Present=Yes indicates that the computer has not been deleted in BigFix

Good Day Ssakunala

I will have a look and let you know , thank you for the info on BFI

will get back to you

Good Day Ssakunala

sorry for only getting back to you now , we had a session with IBM , turns out the system was off for so long that most of the machines failed to check in , we did a complete rebuild and now pushing out new agents and scanners

Case closed for now
