IBM BigFix releases advanced Fixlets for RHEL content

IBM BigFix Patch is pleased to announce the release of advanced Fixlets that uses YUM commands to allow for the installation of a specific patch using either the RHEL download plug-in or the custom repository.

These Fixlets provide users more flexibility, as in cases where if the endpoint has an issue with some other packages for which Fixlet is not there, the advanced Fixlets are used to install the package on the endpoint.

Hi,
i have this requirement to push all the patches using this fixlet, can you please suggest how the below requirements be met?

As per descirption we have two options available:-

  1. Patch using RHSM Download Plugin
    • If we have pem certificates already configured, question is if I push “update all” command in this fixlet will it update my endpoints from bigfix supported repos or from all repos that the pem files have access to? Reason is we may have some extra repos access with our pem files, so will it consider those also and push the patches from those bigfix unsupported repos?
    • How we will be generating the reports in this case? Reports that says what all patches are installed during this patching window?
  2. If we have to use the custom report (description says it is supported with custom repo also)
    • To enable patching from custom repo we push only one fixlet, ID 13 “Enable custom repo support redhat”, is it the only configuration that we have to do with this fixlet also(401)?
    • As it is a custom repo that is enabled on the endpoints and we are patching from it, will it support all the repos that is mapped on the endpoints and yum commands will do the patching as we do manually by login into the server?
    • How we will be gererating the reports for this case? What are the patches installed in this patching window?
      Thanks.
