IBM BigFix Patches for Ubuntu releases content for unannounced Ubuntu packages

IBM BigFix Patches for Ubuntu has released Fixlets for unannounced Ubuntu packages.

These Fixlets cover released Ubuntu packages that are without notices posted in the Ubuntu Security Notices site or through the Ubuntu mailing list. The packages are released to the ‘security’ repositories within the main, universe, restricted, and multiverse channels.

BigFix Fixlets indicate “Unspecified” in the Fixlet title. For example, “Unspecified - Tomcat8-Admin - Ubuntu 16.04 (amd64)”. Since the content is not part of an announced Ubuntu package, there is no errata ID associated with it.

These Unspecified Fixlets were released in the following sites: Patches for Ubuntu 1404 and Patches for Ubuntu 1604.

Actions to Take:
None.

Published site version:
Patches for Ubuntu 1404, version 228.
Patches for Ubuntu 1604, version 71.

BigFix team. When will the external patch site for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS be made available?

Should file a RFE so the managers can see it and prioritize.

If Ubuntu was not a supported OS, then an RFE would definitely be warranted.

However, Ubuntu is already a supported OS and it shouldn’t require an RFE to to get the necessary external patch content in order to properly manage the 18.04 LTS version.

I agree but any new OS version by definition is a new feature. If there’s not many customers using the previous OS version, management will less likely to prioritize supporting a new OS version (e.g. Debian). Unless someone from the BigFix team has stated publicly or privately to you that Ubuntu 18 will be supported, it’s probably best to file a RFE just so the managers can have more visibility in the demand and prioritize it properly.

Fair enough. RFE#122247 submitted. Please vote it up.
