How to move Steps Around

(imported topic written by JeffreyW.)

I’m on IEM 9.1 and looking at Server Automation. How do you move or insert Steps in an automation plan? The documentation mentions editing the Sequence number under the Steps tab. Where is the Sequence number? Add Step only seems to add steps at the end of the plan.

Sequencing changed with the introduction of parallel plans in the June release. We’re currently working on simplifying it for sequential plans but for now there is a dependency twisty under each step which allows you to set the dependencies of each step which achieves the same effect as the previous sequencing approach.

When you add a step it should automatically get added at the end of existing steps, if theres just one branch in the plan, or else at the end of the first branch, if there are multiple branches.

Currently there is no way to move the step in a plan, you must change the dependencies if you want the steps in the plan to execute in a particular sequence. However we are actively working a fix for this and the option to move steps around will be available in our next release ( provisionally scheduled for October ).

Sequence numbers are related to legacy functionality, can you post the link from where you found this information ?

Thanks

Just to follow up on Dominic’s point above and to confirm that moving steps around a plan is now much simpler with the new addition of the “Move” button (see attached image). For a sequential plan, this now allows you to simply select a new location for a step and takes care of setting the dependencies for you.
