Looking for general asset discovery questions, that I can’t find answers for.

  1. Once a scan has been completed and devices are listed in the Unassigned assets tab, I right click on the machine and I can’t install the BES Client. The option is greyed out. The machine is a windows workstation and verified the object does exist and doesn’t have the BES client. Any ideas? I verfied the server has the BES client install application.

  2. Once a scan point is setup and running. Can that scan point scan any subnet it’s aware of? Or does the scan point only scan local subnet it’s attached to?

  3. When the nmap scan runs across a subnet and selected not to included BES clients in the current scan. Does nmap scan all devices and then scan data is filtered to the unmanaged assets tab? or the nmap scan only scan workstations that don’t have BES client installed and report to unassigned assets tab?

  1. the bigfix installer source (besclientdeploy folder) needs to be copied to the directory ‘Program Files\BigFix Enterprise\BES Console’ where you console is running from. http://support.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/kbdirect.pl?id=432

  2. Yes, the scan point can scan any subnet it is aware of, pending of course that nmap scan’s won’t be blocked by your network firewalls

  3. Dunno, I would assume that it excludes those existing managed devices and doesn’t scan them.

Regarding the last question: you should generally not see any BigFix clients/agents in the list of Unmanaged Assets, however, it is possible for it to occur if the client has UDP 52311 blocked. More detail:
