Export to PDF

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

One of the features that I was looking forward to in 7.1 was the “Export to PDF” button in Web Reports. I am at version 7.1 and I’m not seeing that option. Am I missing something?

You need to set it up by following these steps. Note this is available starting in 7.0.9:

http://support.bigfix.com/documents/Web_Reports_PDF/webreports_pdf.html

Once it’s setup you’ll see the Export to PDF option in Web reports in addition to being able to email scheduled reports as PDF.

Thank you. I’ll give that a try.

The instructions focus on emailing a report as a PDF attachment, but it doesn’t seem to address the Export to PDF (nor does it show that option in the images).

Export to PDF was listed as a feature specific to version 7.1. Though emailing a PDF will be useful, I was more interested in the ability to export to a PDF.

You can indeed export to PDF directly, without having to go through email. Once you go through the PDF setup, there will be an “Export to PDF” link on every report page, right under “Export to CSV”. When you click on this link, Web Reports will generate a PDF of the report that you are currently viewing, and your browser will prompt you to download it (or just display it if you have the Adobe PDF plugin installed).

The wording of the Web Reports PDF setup document is misleading, and we’re going to work on changing it to reflect that emailing PDFs is just one of the three options available for generating PDFs in Web Reports (export to PDF, scheduled activities, and emailing).

Sorry about the confusion.

Are there any known issues with the pdf export going from 7.0.9 to 7.1? I had it setup in 7.0.9 and after upgrading to 7.1 - it no longer works. The link to export to PDF is there on the side menu though.

“Web Reports encountered the following error: Background process “BESMakePDF.exe” returned non-zero exit code 2: Error: failed to invoke browser print command”

Also - is the ability to chose “pdf” in “email report” gone for good?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

The ability to email in PDF format still exists in 7.1…is it not showing up for you from the “Email Report” page?

There aren’t any known issues upgrading from 7.0.9 to 7.1, so I think you’ll have to open a support case to deal with the error that you’re seeing. If support doesn’t escalate quickly enough, email me and I’ll take care of it.

The PDF that is generated is not the report but rather a logon screen to web reporting (see attached). Sounds like something on the backend isn’t being allowed access to access the displayed report?

Seems attaching a PDF isn’t working…

KCarlini,

I think you’re going to have to contact BigFix support so that we can debug this.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

It appears to be working properly now for me. Not sure if a reboot of the server corrected it. Hopefully I am all set. Thanks.
