Experience With non English inventory

I was wondering if their has been any testing or experience with DSS identifying non English versions of applications?

Hi Hans,

Although not extensive at this point, we have evidence that the DSS SAM software inventory process does recognize non-English versions of applications. Specifically, when localized BES clients with localized applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat) report to a localized BES server that is used as the datasource for DSS SAM, executable filenames/metadata and installed applications data appear to pass through to the DSS SAM inventory data warehouse without issue. This provides accurate identification via the DSS SAM software catalog correlation process.

Nonetheless, as I’m sure you’re aware, there are many permutations of localized components and products in any given environment and we have not tested them all. We’d be interested in hearing about your results.

Hi Jeff after some prolimanary testing it seams as if DSS SAM supports non English at least Norwegian and has descovered some Norwegian versions off different applications. But it’s hard to say how it will work in a corporat inviroment. Jeff I have some comments around DSS SAM that i Would like to share off line. Could you send me a message to hans.petter@jacobsenconsulting.net
