ENDED: Think 2019 - Pre Conference User Group Meeting?

I know it’s early, but we’re already starting to plan for the Think 2019 conference. The dates are Tues, Feb 12 to Fri, Feb 15.

Does that mean we’ll likely have the BigFix Global User Group meeting on Monday, Feb 11? We should probably plan our travel to SFO on Sunday, Feb 10?

UPDATE: see new post here: Feb 11th - Think 2019 Conference, User Group, and "Build It Live" session

I’m in! Still sore about missing Think 2018!

@AaronBauer, @dexdexdex, @sbl and others have there been any discussion yet regarding the Global BigFix User Group at Think 2019?

We’ve had very high level discussion but that was around the Emeryville BigFix user group meeting that is planned for Oct. I mentioned it would be good to include people whom work on the global meetup so we aren’t reinventing again since the two meet ups are so close to each other. I have not heard of any dates yet. We’ve typically had the global meetup on Sunday, since it’s in SF this I don’t know what day it’s planned for yet.

I’d like to be on the planning committed for the 2019 Global BigFix User Group. Please don’t hesitate to DM me if I can be of any assistance.

I will definitely let you know when those discussion start. That also goes for anyone else interested in being part of the planning of either or both of the Emeryville and Global BigFix User Group meet ups. We want more users to help with these event to ensure we keep these user driven.

 Count me in!

@atlauren to the Emeryville or Global one or both?

This brings up a good point, we should probably set the date for the global user group ASAP at least.

Also, since the Think conference is in San Fran this time around, there is the possibility of holding it at or near our offices nearby in Emeryville instead of at the conference itself. This is a bit of a pain for conference attendees that may be staying in San Fran, but this would also mean would could open it up to those not attending Think as well… now I’m thinking we need to figure out both Time & Place ASAP so we can figure out max attendance.

From my personal perspective, having at conf site vs. Emeryville is good for me either way as long as there’s some kind of available transport if it’s off site.

In terms of planning travel, knowing the date is especially important as I look to make a travel request.

The conference is listed as starting on Tuesday the 12th. The conference has traditionally started on a Monday, so this might mean that the User Group would then move to Monday the 11th instead of Sunday. The other option would be if the last day of the conference (15th) is a 1/2 day, that the User Group would be the 2nd half of that day.

@jgstew, I think having the BUG on the Monday before the conference makes the most sense. Just my $0.02, but I think that the attendance would likely be lower if held on the last day.

@jgstew, @AaronBauer So any plans yet for the BigFix user group meeting at Think 2019? I haven’t booked hotels or travel yet, but I’d like to have an idea whether we’re doing our user group meeting.

I don’t have anything official yet, but with almost certainty the User Group will the on Feb 11th, the day before Think 2019 officially kicks off.

If you want more details, please message me privately on: bigfix.slack.com

I hope to have something official up ASAP.

Feb 11 is Community day which will have all the User Groups including ours. See
https://community.ibm.com/community/user/security/blogs/wendy-batten/2018/12/05/community-day-at-think-2019-ibm-security-user-grou?CommunityKey=96f617c5-4f90-4eb0-baec-2d0c4c22ab50&tab=recentcommunityblogsdashboard

I don’t see the ‘Community day’ sessions in the Session Expert Tool. Have they been added, yet?

So the implication here is, to attend the BigFix User Group Meeting, you have to be registered for Think 2019. This doesn’t matter to me since I am already registered but I think this is something different from past conferences.

This was always the implication at past conference user groups, since they used the conference facilities and were part of the agenda. The reality has more to do with how badges are checked/enforced. I have no idea whether the reality will be different for Think 2019, but I think the implication is the same.

The BigFix User Group before Think 2019 will be Feb 11th from 9am to 12:00pm Pacific in Moscone - South.

More details to come soon. Conference badges WILL be required to attend the user group at Moscone, but we are considering something after that would not require a conference badge, but that is up in the air at this point.

The Think 2019 sessions are now public, but a few others may be added shortly: https://myibm.ibm.com/events/think/all-sessions

See this google calendar I made with the session list:

Working on getting airfare lined up for Think 2019! Looking at the agenda there is nothing BigFix/MaaS on Friday (the final half day of the conference). Is anything planned for Friday (morning or afternoon) that would warrant staying till the redeye friday night back to the east?

We may do something small and informal, but nothing planned.
