Enabling Linux Patching After Installing the Site

(imported topic written by arpotu91)

Hello,

We are about to start using BigFix for RedHat Linux patching again, and need to provide the RHN username and password to the site. I don’t see where to do that, and the instructions on the support site refer to a fresh install. Is there a way to (re)enter the RHN user and pass after the site is installed?

Thanks,

Arpotu.

Did you see the KB article?

http://support.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/kbdirect.pl?id=267

It explains how to use the caching utility with your RedHat username/password. You should just need to find where the existing tool is being run and through your new username/password into the batch file.

I remember with an earlier version of BES, this was all done through the console… so it is safe to assume that has changed completely?

I’m not sure if it still holds true, but it used to be that you used the fixlet for one time downloads and used the caching tool and scheduled it (task scheduler or something similar) if you wanted controlled reoccuring downloads.

You can use the task found in Patches for RedHat to download the patches. You can also use the task to schedule recurring downloads. The difference is security. Read the note found on the task to determine if the task or manually caching is appropriate in your environment.

Ok, did the manual download; worked out. Thanks for the responses
