Editing besclient.config in Solaris

(imported topic written by Kevitivity91)

In order to address issues with BESClient being a resource hog on Solaris machines, we’ve been asked to implement some new settings in the config file on the client (Sleepidle, etc.).

However, any changed we make to besclient.config are lost as soon as we restart the client. By contrast, this does not happen on our Linux boxes.

Whats the proper way to edit besclient.config?

Ok, looks like besclient doesn’t behave like a normal Unix service (doh!) and you need to shut down the client before editing. Fooled by bad design…

Are there any plans to fix this?

The expected method to change client settings is to do so using the BES Console, right-click on the computer and select ‘edit settings’.

If you’re going to manually change the client settings you will need to stop the agent, make the file changes and then restart it.
