Duplicate serial numbers

(imported topic written by JLaFo91)

When we re-image a machine big fix makes a new line entry in the database as designed. However, it’ll create multiple entries to machines with the same serial number, just different host names. The old host name will just sit grayed out until deleted.

Is there a way for Big Fix to recognize that the serial number already exists to the old host name in the database and update to the new host name thus eliminting multiple entries for the same workstation???

H JLaFo,

You can run the Computer Remover utility and have it periodically clean these types of duplicates or old computers:

(See the -P command in the help file http://software.bigfix.com/download/bes/util/BESComputerRemover_help.txt)

Hi,

Can someone please confirm me Bigfix count the client as per the licensing view.

If I reinstall a machine’s OS on same hardware, it will have a duplicate entry and will count double license. Am I right?

Please give me some details.

Hi nissark,

Licenses are only used if the device has reported in the last 24 hours. So a reinstalled OS will show two computers in the console, but only one will occupy a license.
