Would it be possible with BigFix to say download a large file/image (1gb+) to a machine but only during set hours in the evening and if the download is not completed during that period then it resumes from where it left off the next evening during the defined hours?
I think it automatically does checkpoint restart on the downloads. as far as within certain hours look at the execution tab options on the deployment screen.
I suppose what I’m trying to clarify is the flexibility of the execution options.
Say if the PC is told to download the 1gb file between the hours of 1am-2am each morning for 5 days a week, if it only downloads 250mb on the first morning will it then resume each morning betwen 1am-2am until it has the completed file?
Will the cache be cleared in the meantime for instance?
Will it start downloading from the beginning of the file again at the next download window instead of resuming etc…?
That may be a good option, we could really throttle it back during core business hours (this would be going to sites with slow links) then ramp it back up out out of hours
I’m with Steve. It would be very useful to be able to set a download timeframe as he suggested. It would also be beneficial to be able to “pause” a download by sending a command, then be able to resume it at a later time with another command (assuming the action window is still open). Can you add this to the feature request list if they’re not already there? Thanks.
I think it would be great if the client could “auto-resume” a large download and would like to submint it as a feature request!! I think there could be much more “control/options” available for large fixlet/task downloads. I use the “Start client downloads before constraints are satisfied” option but would really like to have full time constraints. I would also like the option to notify users that a large package is being downloaded, give them an option to start it and show them a progress bar. Something similar to the “display message” before a task is run but in this case display a message before you begining a download.
I’m in the process of trying to push out a 700+mb package (office 2010) and several of our sites have low bandwidth links. I also have to push the same package to a large group of laptop internet based users who will be downloading it over their home internet connection. It will be very hard to ensure the download is not interrupted by a reboot or shutdown!
