Disaster Recovery of Main BES Server

(imported topic written by ErnieF91)

I just wanted to confirm the steps necessary to restore a main BES server using only a database backup. I referenced KB139 and some of the steps are unclear. I actually have a copy of this same KB article from two years ago and the steps are different.

I’ll just include the steps in order that are in question:

Step 2 says to restore database. No problem

Step 5 says to install the BES Server doesn’t mention installing the BES Console, but does say to not start it.

Step 6 says that after installation completes to detach ‘bfenterprise_data’ - odd

Step 7 Login to the BES Server using the BES Console. How? There isn’t a database attached anymore?

The KB139 from two years ago states to install BES Server, detach the ‘bfenterprise’ database and then restore the original database from backup.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is an old thread but the topic is what I need. I am wondering what files on the BES server need to be backed up? I see in several KBs and posts to ensure the DB is backed up and that if you have to rebuild the server it will re-cache your downloads but what about uploads? What about custom content? If the server were to crash hard with all files lost what needs to be backed up to ensure no custom content (tasks or fixlets including installs) is lost? DB is hosted on a remote SQL server.
