I am trying to deploy the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 to a 64-bit Windows 7 system. The install command is “drvupdate-amd64.exe /Q”
When logged in locally, as an administrator, the install works just fine. When trying to deploy using Tivoli, the install fails with a 1603 error. Anyone else ever try to deploy this software? How were you able to do it?
There are two main reasons that the installer might not work when run by the BigFix client:
The client will run the installer as the SYSTEM user, not a normal admin user.
The client is a 32-bit process (and I think I’ve heard there is some issue with the client launching a 64-bit installer, though I don’t recall exactly what the issue was).
Number 2 doesn’t make any sense, because I’ve deployed numerous 64-bit applications with Tivoli.
As for number 1, why wouldn’t the SYSTEM account be able to install something the local admin account can? I understand if the account needs rights to the network, but that is not the case here. Doesn’t SYSTEM have higher privileges than the admin?
I’ve come across this same issue. For some reason it seems to install just fine on Win8 x64 but not Win7 x64 which is perplexing. This is what I have so far: http://bigfix.me/fixlet/details/2619
