Deploying fixlets to ESX 3.0.0/3.0.1

(imported topic written by menke123491)

The KB article 449 (last mod. 11/26/07) states that, for the ‘Patches for ESX3’ site, detection is supported for ESX 3.0.0, 3.0.1, and 3.0.2, but remediation only for 3.0.2. It also states “Patch deployment (Remediation) for ESX Server 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 is forthcoming”.

  1. Does that site now support deployment to 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 (or is it also tied to the BESClient version)?

  2. Is the issue limited to the ‘Patches for ESX3’ site or does it also apply to custom content? We’re looking to push a couple of rpms to ESX 3.0.0/3.0.1 systems (installed via ‘rpm’ not ‘esxupdate’) and need to know if we have to explicitly exclude those versions.

Hi menke,

The KB is accurate and we do have a fully supported BigFix Agent for ESX3 that can run all custom Fixlets/actions just like any other agent, but the Fixlets that we provide for 3.0.0/3.0.1 don’t have remediation (3.0.2 Fixlets do have remediation).

You should be able to use your rpm updates with no issues…

Thanks Ben.
