Deleting bigfix client from bigfix and BFI

If a computer is deleted from the BigFix Console, does it automatically get deleted from BFI?

If so, is there a way to prevent that so computers can be deleted from the console but remain in BFI so we have a historical record of license usage for auditing purposes?

Computers deleted from BigFix console will be deleted in BFI, however in license reports those computers will remain for audit reasons, so you do not need to worry about that.

Hi, which are the license reports? Are those the reports under the “Software Inventory” category such as Inventory Exploration, Package Data, Scanned File Data, Oracle Databases, etc?

License reports are under the License Metrics category of reports, such as the All Metrics, and IBM PVU Subcapacity.

So then the advanced server setting of “automatically decommission inactive servers” would remove them (and all data?) from BFI after they are inactive for 90+ days?

Not exactly. The software inventory data for the decommissioned computer is still present, but will no longer be considered by any of the License Metric reports, for time periods following the decommissioning. Remember, these computers contributed to your license position(s) when they were active, so the data has to remain available for historical reporting. Note also that if the decommissioned servers reappear as active in BigFix, then they will become active again in BFI.

Usually, you will run a report once every quarter (90 days), and create an Audit Snapshot file, storing it somewhere safe in case BFI goes down and you lose the data. Even so, the Audit Snapshots from the past will contain the contributions of these decommissioned servers to your license position(s).
