I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a limitation on the number of custom sites that can be created in Bigfix? What is the number of custom sites that everyone else is running? Example site numbers and/or setup?
We are looking to setup a number of test and development sites.
Some background. We have been using Bigfix since version 5 and have built a completely parallel system with DSA… etc. and are migrating the existing systems to the new setup.
Custom sites are used to separate content for many reasons but one is to support the development cycle of content, with alpha and beta sites.
I had asked the same question regarding the limit of custom sites of our support folks and the response was that there was no known limit and we were likely passing what they have tested in house. We will be topping the 1000 mark of custom sites before we complete the migration. From what I can tell is that a custom site is very similar to an operator site internally so I believe that the the limits will seen first in the clients ability to process the subscriptions and accounts on initial installs. To help avoid that we have moved everything we can from the main action site and even deferred subscriptions to most custom sites until after a system has completed initial provisioning.
Other background info on new setup.
Presently at ~3000 but ramping up to ~15000, that have an international distribution.
Fixlet counts are just over 8000.
Tasks are pushing ~600.
Baselines at ~60.
Computer Groups at 210 but will be ramped to over 1000 by the time we have included all sites.
Analyses are approaching 200 with a total property count now over 3600. (… using Bigfix as a source to a in house configuration management DB for auditing). This is also a rapid are of growth that we use the custom sites to limit the impact to any specific client by be very specific on the subscriptions and analysis targetting relevance.
Our relay to system ratio is 1 relay to <500 nodes, locally within a facility and we do have top level relays on same subnet as the BES Servers. We found that getting over the 500 node count ‘tiggered’ feedback from operators that things appeared to be slow.
