I wanted to find out the current / most recent methods that should be used for Wake-on-LAN. Between the various Wizards, Wake-on-LAN Medic, Right-Click WoL menu option, etc., I’m not sure which methods are “current” and which ones are only still around to support legacy operations.
I’ve found Wake-on-LAN to be sporadic, at best, and before I get too far into troubleshooting I wanted to make sure I’m using the preferred methods.
They should all work.
Make sure you have most systems, particularly those on Ethernet configured as Wake On Lan Forwarders. You could designate 100% of systems as WoL forwarders.
Make sure WoL is enabled in the BIOS / Windows / NIC.
If you are trying to establish a maintenance window at a particular time of day, then you should use Scheduled Wake From Standby in addition to Scheduled Wake On Lan, but have the Scheduled Wake From Standby happen a few minutes before the Scheduled WoL. This will cause there to be more systems already awake to help wake those that are still asleep.
