The article for the hotfix says “A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.” so no real expectation that this exact hotfix would be installed.
We do still have a few clients with Office 2010 and this security update is no longer applicable.
I have Microsoft Word 2010 installed. Why am I not being offered the 3127951 update? The 3127951 update only applies to systems running specific configurations of Microsoft Office 2010. Some configurations will not be offered the update.
This special configuration is “KB2428677”.
Look at the filename for KB3127951 and you will notice that is has that same kb number prepended to the front.
You will find the same with any other older bulletin which contained Office 2010 updates that are targeted at installs that have KB2428677.
Of course, MS is no longer adding this FAQ but the same deal applies and you can determine this by looking at the filename.
Office 2010 was old before I had any responsibility for patching Windows and Office, so I had no idea that this naming convention existed and even less as to its meaning.
