Does anyone have any info on what current Tivoli Provisioning Manager (software & os deployment) users can expect from BigFix?
Will TPM customers be given some BigFix product that already exists, something I can start learning now, or do we need to wait for a new product release?
I did download the BigFix Enterprise demo and have played with it a bit - seems nice and I’d love to have all this functionality in one single environment… However it seems that the demo does not contain the software provisioning or OS deployment components? Therefore I could not really compare it to our current TPM for SW & TPM for OSD featureset.
I do understand that I am perhaps asking the wrong audience for this - but any opinions or comments are welcome. We are of course also talking with our IBM contacts about this too, but it’s taking a long time so I wanted to try here - there is a slight pressure over schedules about this as we need a product that allows us to migrate our MS desktops to Windows 7, which our current TPM installation does not support as a target.
Software Distribution is done by generating fixlets from wizards, per operating system. Those wizards can be found under the Systems Lifecycle Management domain. We’re working on a new package management library that should be pretty interesting, as well.
Your BigFix sales team should be the best place to get information on specific entitlements and features, I’ll forward this to some folks and see if we can’t accelerate the process.
Thanks for the info. Found the software distribution tools and will read up on the OSD side.
We don’t have a BigFix sales contact - our IBM sales contacts have been trying to sort out something for us to replace our Tivoli entitlements with BigFix but so far we don’t really know what’s going to happen.
